Friendly Guide

Had a wonderful walk round the rock, mostly on footpaths. Wonderful views of Spain and Africa.

Well worth the sweat!

I really enjoyed the walking tour up the rock and down! Steven is a great knowledgeable guide and answered any questions we had, also some history when we hit the sites. Pluses: weather was great so the visibility was awesome, monkeys were seen at few places and we got really close up and personal with them (though I kept my distance since they are still wild animals!), The views were well worth the hike and sweat in the heat. Negatives: the tour should really be advertised as a "hiking up the rock and down your" because its mainly up up nearly all the way and I found myself catching my breath quite a few times and I thought I was quite fit! :( I felt like giving up many times and taking the cable car down if I survived the climb up as I was just exhausted and hot (reapply the cream few times, wear a hat, have lots of water, wear walking/hiking shoes and have snacks for fuel as it's good few hours! Eat cautiously though as monkeys smell food mile or so away and I was nearly attacked by one lol) Soo basically if you're not use to hiking, climbing up hills and worry you're not that fit, I recommend you take the cable car or taxi up the rock and meet guide there. You can take the hill top pictures there without feeling like you're dying from heat and tiredness!

A MUST DO TOUR

I recently took this Tour recently and it exceeded my expectations . The Tour is basically a walk up the Rock, starting at the Nature Reserve, climbing to the peak and ending up back in the City Centre. The walk is not too difficult and anyone who is reasonably fit should be able to do it. I am 58 and smoke and I had no problems as the pace was such that everyone walked roughly together at a sensible speed. Saying that it is probably not for everyone, but the title "Upper Rock Walking Tour" says it all. So rather obviously you should not go on this Tour if you are unwilling or unable to walk up a Rock. There is a £5.00 admission fee to enter the Nature Reserve. They take euro's but paying in pounds gives a better exchange rate. Once the inside the Nature Reserve the Tour started and the Guide, (Stephen), took us to a number of very interesting sites and gave us excellent commentary about the attractions he took us to. We also saw lots of Monkeys and the photo opportunities with them were endless. Stephen really knew about Gibraltar. He was friendly, knowledgeable and approachable throughout and I cannot recommend him or his Tour highly enough. He also recommended Bruno's Bar in Ocean Village where we ended up having a great evening. Thanks for everything Stephen

Excellent walk, especially off the beaten track bits

Excellent guide, a great way to experience the rock and the views! The 'difficult but scenic' option when/if given the choice is definitely worth the extra effort!
