An Unforgettable Journey Through the Hidden Stories of Chinatown

What a wonderful and enriching way to explore Singapore’s Chinatown! Polly’s *Secrets of the Back Alleys* tour was truly a memorable experience, filled with fascinating discoveries, intriguing stories and valuable insights into Singapore’s rich history and cultural heritage. Polly is an exceptional guide who brings the past to life through her engaging storytelling and impressive knowledge of the neighbourhood. She has a wonderful ability to uncover the hidden stories behind familiar streets, historic buildings, narrow back alleys and seemingly ordinary places that many people would simply walk past without a second glance. Through her explanations, I gained a much deeper appreciation of Chinatown and its historical significance, as well as the people, traditions and experiences that have shaped this unique part of Singapore. What made the tour particularly special was Polly’s passion for sharing Singapore’s heritage. Rather than simply presenting historical facts, she connects the past with the present in a way that is both interesting and meaningful. Her stories offer a glimpse into the lives of earlier generations, allowing us to better understand how Singapore has evolved while preserving important aspects of its cultural identity. It was fascinating to discover the lesser-known corners of Chinatown and learn about the stories that might otherwise remain hidden from visitors and even locals. Polly’s enthusiasm and dedication made the entire experience enjoyable, informative and engaging from beginning to end. Her tour is a wonderful reminder that there is so much more to a place than what meets the eye and that every street and alley may hold a story waiting to be discovered. I came away from the tour with a greater appreciation for Chinatown, a deeper understanding of Singapore’s heritage and many interesting stories to remember and share with others. A heartfelt thank you to Polly for such a wonderful experience and for keeping Singapore’s history and heritage alive through her passion and storytelling. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour to both locals and tourists who wish to look beyond the usual attractions and discover the fascinating stories hidden within Singapore’s Chinatown. An excellent tour with an outstanding guide and an experience well deserving of five stars! Highly recommended! So why wait? Just book the tour with Polly!

Chinatown tour with Polly

It was a great tour where we learned more about the early Chinese immigrants to Singapore and how they worked, lived and played. We love the wall murals by local artists as well as the beautiful architecture of shophouses and places of worship. Polly was a patient and thoughtful guide, taking care of our well being throughout the tour. We love the conversations with her which felt less like a rehearsed guiding script. Keep up the great job!

5 Stars plus 10 more

We are a group of 4 women from the USA who decided to take this walking tour with Polly. She was not only friendly but extremely knowledgeable of the history of Singapore and Chinatown. We absolutely learned far more than we anticipated. Also, we enjoyed the sweet stories, including learning about the murals, that all seemed to include the family cat, Mary. If you’re debating, just book it and enjoy seeing Chinatown.
