Description

First things first: we start with the classics—the hutongs. What exactly is a hutong? Who lives there now? What are their stories? And how do these ancient alleyways connect Beijing's distant past to the present? In this must-see part, you'll get all the answers. After all, there's no better way to understand a city than through the lives of its everyday people, right?

Next, we'll visit some of Beijing's old-time "city clubs"—places where fellow townspeople and tradesmen once gathered. Now, in these hundred-year-old houses, new things are happening. Here is where we connect with people from ancient times.

Then, we'll head to a highlight that's also a hidden gem: a riverside area. It's a rare getaway, just a short walk from the bustling city center. If you're looking for a place to unwind with great views and a laid-back vibe, look no further.

After a journey down a vibrant food street, the tour will end at the soul of the city—the Central Axis, the grand design that has defined this imperial city for centuries.

Perfect tour

The tour was excellent! The guide April was very nice, a lot of knowledge, speaks perfectly English!

Outstanding!

Our guide, April, led us on a fascinating journey through the hutongs of Beijing. We visited an opera theatre, a art precinct, an olive oil shop with an incredible table. We wandered along a small riverine park enjoying bird life and locals relaxing. Finally, we ended up in a food street where foods from different parts of the country were explained. We learned so much on our tour! April recommended places to eat (and not eat) and also many other things to make our travel in China easier. Her English understanding and diction were superb even though she has never left China. Thoroughly recommend this tour and the guide. One of the best I have experienced in many countries I have visited.

A peek into the life in the Hutongs

April was great! She had interesting stories and insights to share throughout the tour. This tour led us thru some narrow Hotongs and as the description mentions, also gave us a look into traditional life and how some of them have been transformed into hotels and boutique stores today! We also walked through a lovely park in the middle of the city and came back after the tour for a pleasant coffee in one of the streamside cafes in the park! Highly recommend this tour with April!
