Description

We will explore how queer people lived their lives and fought for their rights throughout Prague's history, but mainly from the 19th century to the present day.

Since the modern queer identities began to crystallize in the 19th century, our fight for dignity has had many ups and downs. We will meet at the Wenceslas Square, the modern city center of Prague, where the independence of Czechoslovakia was proclaimed and where Prague Pride begins every year.

We will explore the hopeful years of the interwar era in the Lucerna passage, which used to host the most audacious parties of the queer Lucerna Boys, and attempts to reform the criminal code under the new republic.

After touching on the colossal tragedy that was the Second World War, we will talk about how the secret police and communist rule transformed the lives of queer people and how some progress was gradually achieved.

Then at Národní Třída, we will talk about the Velvet Revolution and how it allowed queer people to finally openly advocate for our rights again, and we will continue to the Archer's island, where Pride Village springs up every August to learn about the recent wins and losses of the queer rights movement.

Highly recommend

The tour was extremely informative and well-organized. Maki is so knowledgeable and shared with us many interesting facts, that we didn't notice how the time flew by. It is one of the best queer tours that we have ever had, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

Great experience, even for a local!

Maki is a natural guide, she has great storytelling skills and I learned a lot about the less talked about history of Prague!

Take this tour

Our host (Maki) was wonderful. We've been on several tours since arriving in Prague. She was the best host and the subject matter was the most interesting. The tour provides a nontraditional perspective of Prague's history, and human nature in general. Highly recommend this tour!

Very good tour with a lot of info

The guide met us in the big busy square but frequently took us to side streets where it was much quieter and talked there. It was great, Maki was awesome. I got so much new information She answered all our questions very well.

Our best tour in Prague by far <3

We had a absolutly outstanding experience. The tour ist well researched and planned. Maki ist really nice and approachable, invested in the topics and able to answer any questions. We recommend this tour 100% to anyone interested in getting to know Prague from a different perspective and see and hear about places you probably wouldn’t have spared a second look otherwise.
