Description

An alternative to the standard alternative tour. Darker. More intense. More revealing.

As daylight fades, Berlin’s true face emerges. When the Wall fell, freedom rose — and so did an underworld. Twilight Berlin walks neon backstreets where graffiti marks territory and hip hop, punk and street crews shaped rebellion.

Step inside an immersive street art gallery — New York pioneers to Berlin’s post-Wall explosion and see one of Berlin’s oldest operating squat houses, a legendary punk stronghold that hosted bands before they went mainstream. As night falls, hear how parallel economies, the drug trade and prostitution still feed the nightlife empire. Murals sit beside gangs, organised crime, corruption and unsolved hits.

We finish in one of Berlin’s most intense districts with street life and hustles every night, the living underworld, not a museum piece.

I founded Alternative Berlin in 2006 and have lived this scene for 25 years. Twilight takes you into the underworld, not just the underground.

Strictly 18+. Max 8 guests. We observe mature themes including crime and drugs, but never participate. Bring an AB ticket. Starts at golden hour; ends after dark in the nightlife district.

The best tour guide in Berlin and a completely unique side of th

I have traveled to over 40 countries and have done well over 50 free walking tours on my trips, and I can honestly say that Adrian was definitely the best tour guide I have ever had in Berlin and maybe even on all of my travels. Because our group had so many questions about the storys about crimes, gangs, graffiti and the Berlin underworld, he made the tour much longer than the planned 3 hours. At the same time, he kept checking in with us to make sure the extra time was okay for everyone and apologized multiple times for the delay, even though it was entirely caused by our endless questions (even about completly different storys or his personal life) because his stories and his way of telling them were just so extremly intresting. He really took his time to take us beyond the typical tourist spots and show us a completely different, darker side of Berlin, from street art and old squat houses to the history of organized crime and the nightlife districts. Over the last 5-10 years, I have probably done more than 5 different free walking tours in Berlin, including alternative ones, and this Twilight Berlin tour was easily one of the best tours I have ever experienced. I am German myself, even though I come from a different state and yet almost every single story he told was completely new to me or at most I had only read a brief summary about it somewhere before. He showed us the perspective on Berlin that he had formed over the last years and decades and woven them into his storys and overall gives you his very own version of Berlin with his own unique insights into Berlin and also the "underworld". Even though we explored intense neighborhoods after dark and covered heavy topics, I never felt unsafe at any point during the tour. With our group, he was constantly paying attention to our surroundings and always kept an eye on all of us, especially while using public transport. In fact, using public transportation during the tour was an absolutely brilliant way to see Berlin from a completely different perspective as well and to explore several distinct neighborhoods in one go, starting from Potsdamer Straße and finishing in the nightlife district. Even though I already had a Deutschlandticket, he personally helped the other participants buy their AB tickets. For anyone who might be put off by needing a ticket, be assured that those few euros are completely worth it and probably cost less than buying a beer at a Späti or Sipermarket in many other places. Especially for people like me who are only in Berlin for a short stay, I can not enough recommend this tour. He speaks absolutely perfect English, is one of the coolest guides of all time and is just a genuinely kind-hearted (and cool!) person. Also a huge thanks for the great food recommendation next to our final stop and for looking up my train connection for my onward journey.
