Description

Join us on a fascinating journey through (Old Cairo and Fustat), where Islamic, Christian, and Jewish heritage come together in one of Egypt’s most remarkable historical areas.

Our journey begins with (Fustat), Egypt’s first Islamic capital, founded by General (Amr ibn al-‘As) in 640 AD. Here, we will visit the Mosque of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, traditionally regarded as the oldest surviving mosque in Egypt and Africa. Founded in 641 AD, it became the first mosque and one of the earliest major buildings of the new capital.

We will then explore the Christian heritage of Old Cairo, including the Hanging Church, one of Egypt’s most famous Coptic churches, built above the ancient Roman fortress of Babylon.

A special highlight will be the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, known as Abu Serga. The church is traditionally associated with the Journey of the Holy Family through Egypt, as the cave beneath the church is believed, according to Coptic tradition, to be a place where the Holy Family sought refuge. We will discover its basilica-style architecture, ancient artistic details, and the religious traditions connected to the site.
