Description

Step into the forgotten world of Al-Qata’i, the 9th-century capital of Ahmad Ibn Tulun, and discover some of Cairo’s most remarkable Islamic treasures.

Begin with the magnificent Sultan Hassan Mosque and Al-Rifa’i Mosque, home to the royal tombs of the Muhammad Ali family. Then journey back to the 9th century at the extraordinary Mosque of Ibn Tulun, built between 876 and 879 AD and famous for its vast courtyard, intricate stucco decorations, and iconic spiral minaret inspired by the architecture of Samarra.

For an unforgettable adventure, climb the historic minaret and enjoy spectacular views over Old Cairo.

The journey continues inside the fascinating Gayer-Anderson Museum, housed in two beautiful Ottoman-era residences dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Explore the collections of Gayer Anderson Pasha, an English doctor and officer who fell in love with Egypt and dedicated his home and collection to preserving its rich heritage.

Khalid was so enthusiastic and informative bringing us to see some amazing mosques and the Gayer Museum. Would highly recommend. Bring your walking shoes and cash to pay the entrance fees.
