Description

We begin our visit in the Plaza Mayor of Cáceres, the historical and social center of the city. From here we contemplate the Torre de Bujaco, the Ermita de la Paz and the Arco de la Estrella, the main access to the old town. Crossing it, we enter a medieval world declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

We stroll through cobblestone streets surrounded by palaces and noble houses such as the Palace of the Golfines de Abajo and the Casa de las Veletas, now the Museum of Cáceres. We visit the Co-cathedral of Santa Maria, with its imposing altarpiece and the possibility of climbing the tower to see the city from above.

Throughout the tour we discover traces of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim cultures that coexisted in the city, and listen to legends that still live among its stones. We finish the visit among charming squares and scenes from movies and series such as Game of Thrones. Cáceres is a city that captivates with its living history, its unique atmosphere and its timeless beauty.

visita guiada a la Ciudad Monumental de Cáceres.

El sábado 10 de este mes estuve con mi mujer para hacer la visita guiada a la Ciudad Monumental. Contactamos con Ana, la guía, que estaba en la plaza mayor a la hora convenida. El recorrido de la visita así como la exposición que fue haciendo Ana nos pareció bastante amena y documentada. No obstante no nos pareció bien la parte de la exposición que se refirió a Hernán Cortés. Se dijeron sólo aspectos negativos de su obra en Hispanoamérica. Sin duda que los tuvo. Pero cuando se habla de un personaje histórico tan importante, aunque muchos españoles no lo consideran así quizás por falta de conocimiento histórico, no se pueden exponer sólo sus aspectos negativos. Se podía haber hecho mención a que gracias a su labor los habitantes de Centro América se libraron por fin de la dictadura antropofágica del Imperio Azteca; fundó también el Hospital de Jesús en 1501 que sigue funcionando hoy quinientos cinco años después y gracias a sus Cartas de Relación, dirigidas al emperador Carlos V, conocemos con todo detalle lo que se fue desarrollando en aquel descubrimiento en esa parte de América Central. Lo dicho, soy de la opinión que hay que decir lo que se hace mal pero es de justicia decir también lo que se hace bien. Nuestra felicitación para Ana.
