Description

We'll start at Stairs No. 3 to the San Lorenzo beach and delve into the historic neighbourhood of Cimavilla. During the walk we will learn about Gijón's Roman heritage, its so-called "cathedral of the sea" (the Church of San Pedro), get to know more about one of its most illustrious former inhabitants (Jovellanos), visit one the neighbourhood's most "local" squares and the people who used to frequent it, and go up the Cerro de Santa Catalina where we will talk about one of the symbols of the city. We will then go down to the old docks, pass by the Marquis' square, and finish at the main square.

The entire walking tour typically lasts 2 to 2.5 hours.

I recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes.

Best tour in town

I had an amazing time with Tom in Gijon. The tour was very informative - I really appreciate all the details not just the history of the town but also small strange things which were pointed out along the way ... highly recommend the tour if you are in Gijon...

Gijon—old town with Tom

We had a fantastic tour with Tom. My wife and I were the only two on the tour, which allowed for a lot of insight and discussion. Tom is very knowledgeable and passionate about his city, and showed us many important sights. After the tour was done, Tom walked us to a fun and vibrant area in the new part of town. If you’re looking for a tour in English in Gijon, I highly recommend a tour with Tom.
