Description

Forget art history lectures and complicated artistic terminology. This National Gallery tour is all about the stories.

Join your guide for a journey through some of the most famous paintings in the world, uncovering the human drama hidden behind every masterpiece. Meet ambitious kings, powerful queens, rebellious artists, tragic lovers, mythological heroes, religious visionaries, and ordinary people whose stories have survived for centuries through paint and canvas.

As you explore the gallery, you'll discover how artists used symbolism, secret messages, and visual clues to communicate with their audiences. Learn how political scandals, royal rivalries, religious conflicts, and personal tragedies inspired many of the works that hang on the walls today.

From the Renaissance and the Dutch Golden Age to Impressionism and beyond, you'll see how art reflects the hopes, fears, beliefs, and ambitions of the people who created it. Rather than focusing on dates and technical details, this tour reveals the fascinating stories that make these paintings unforgettable.

National Gallery Tour with Alex Miller

Highly recommend taking a tour with Alex Miller at the National Gallery! Alex was wonderfully accommodating and incredibly knowledgeable. He curated a great selection of artwork to discuss and made plenty of room for our questions and comments throughout. We had a fantastic time and would recommend him without hesitation!

National Gallery

We had such a lovely time on this free walking tour at the National Gallery! ❤️ Liv was absolutely wonderful — so friendly, enthusiastic and full of passion. She shared so many interesting stories about the paintings and artists, and made the whole tour fun, engaging and easy to follow. You could really tell how much she loves what she does, and her warm, personal way of telling stories made the experience feel special. She was funny, charming and genuinely lovely, and we enjoyed every minute of it! Definitely one of the highlights of our visit to the National Gallery. We highly recommend this tour — and a huge thank you to Liv! ????

Enjoyable gallery tour

Liv was my tour guide and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour with her at the National Gallery. Liv was friendly, personable, and attentive even before the tour, sending messages with clear information about how to find her and contact her, which I really appreciated after having encountered difficulties with some other guided tours. Also her background covers both art and music, both of which I love so that was a nice surprise. But don't expect anything musical here. After all it is a gallery!

A wonderful tour of the National Gallery!

We had an incredible tour of the National Gallery led by Alex Miller. Alex’s enthusiasm for art was infectious, and his passion really brought every piece to life. Since it was an intimate group of just three people, the experience felt very personal. We had plenty of time to discuss our favorite artworks, share interesting facts, and ask questions—Alex was more than happy to answer all of them in depth. My only complaint is that I wished it was longer so we could have covered even more paintings! A must-do for any art enthusiast.
