Description

This Former Capital City of Goa was constructed by the Bijapur Sultanate in the 15th century and served as the capital of Portuguese India from the 16th century until its abandonment in the 18th century due to a plague.

We Begin our walk at the Saint Catherine Chapel built in 1510 to commemorate the victory over the Adil Shah by Alfonso De Albuquerque. We View some other ruins found in and around old Goa displayed in the open space at the Chapel.

We will walk past these ruins and head to the Convent and Church of Saint Francis of Assisi built by the Franciscan order. From the Saint Francis of Assisi, we walk to the Sé Cathedral dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. We walk along Rua Direita towards the Viceroys Arch built in 1597 by Governor Francisco Da Gama.

After the Viceroy Arch, we visit Saint Cajetan Church a miniature replica of the Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome. We walk to the Basilica of Bom Jesus where the Relics of Saint Francis Xavier are laid in a glass coffin in a silver casket.

We end our walk at the Basilica of Bom Jesus.
