Description

How do you rebuild a city after total destruction?

Most visitors to Hiroshima learn about the atomic bombing. This walking tour tells the story of what happened next.

Follow the remarkable story of Hiroshima's first democratically elected mayor, Shinzo Hamai. An A-bomb survivor himself, he helped guide the city through one of the most difficult periods in its history. Through the places where key decisions were made, you'll discover how Hiroshima transformed from Japan's former military center into an international symbol of peace.

This tour is about much more than the bombing itself. It is the story of how a devastated city found hope, rebuilt its communities, invested in its future, and became a symbol of peace.

Perfect after visiting the Peace Memorial Museum, this tour answers the question many visitors are leave asking: How did Hiroshima rebuild?

The meeting point is just across from the A-Bomb Dome. The walk covers approximately 1.4 km (0.9 miles) at a relaxed pace with frequent stops, and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

By the end, you'll have your own answer to one simple question:
How do you rebuild a city after total destruction?
