Description

What can ancient ruins, elegant streets, and war-scarred buildings tell us about Beirut?

Join me on a 2.5-hour walking tour through the heart of the city and discover the stories that shaped Beirut, from its earliest beginnings to the complex reality of today. Walk through archaeological sites, historic landmarks and streets that once stood along the demarcation line during the Lebanese Civil War, where the past is never far from the present.

Together, we’ll explore the events, political struggles and social dynamics that transformed Beirut into the city we know today. But this is more than a journey through dates and monuments. It’s an opportunity to understand the people behind the history, the different narratives that shape collective memory and the ongoing debate over the city’s identity and future.

Why was Beirut divided? What does reconstruction reveal about the city? And how do decades of conflict continue to influence everyday life?

If you’re curious about history, politics and the human stories behind the places you visit, this walk offers an engaging introduction to Beirut’s past, its contradictions and the forces that continue to shape it today.

Learnt SO much on this walk !

Taking a walking tour with Mira was easily the highlight of my time so far in Beirut. From the moment we met at the Beirut Sign, her warmth, friendliness, and deep knowledge of the city set the tone for an incredible afternoon. Mira guided us seamlessly through thousands of years of history. She began with ancient roots before exploring the Downtown Souks, where she broke down the complex history of Solidere and the city’s post-war reconstruction. Standing in front of the iconic Herzog terraced building with the worn-torn Holiday Inn just beside it while she recounted the Battle of the Hotels felt almost cinematic—shocking, deeply moving, and intensely cinematic all at once. Mira really handled Lebanon’s intricate history with incredible nuance & critique. Stopping just outside the blocked-off Jewish Quarter, Mira explained the census history, Hariri's growth in power, demographic shifts, and the subtle ways communities integrated over time. Seeing the Roman Baths, the government centre at the star-shaped square, followed by the sight of the Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque standing side-by-side with the St. George Greek Orthodox and Maronite Cathedrals at sunset, was breathtaking. It was my favorite spot in the city. We wrapped up our tour taking a group photo by the Parliament buildings while learning about the formation of the state, before finishing at Martyrs' Square. Hearing her speak about the Green Line — how a former line of division transformed into a point of connection and a lasting reminder of peace—was the perfect, beautiful & hopeful note to end on. Mira is a phenomenal storyteller and an absolute gem of a guide. I was more than happy to tip her for such an enriching experience — she earned every bit of it and more. When you come to Beirut, do not miss a tour with Mira!

Amazing walking tour with Mira

I really enjoyed this walking tour! We were only two people, so it almost felt like a private tour. Mira was absolutely fantastic! She shared so many interesting facts and insights, not just about Beirut's history, but also about everyday life, politics and the current situation in Lebanon. I especially appreciated how open she was and how much we learned about the social side of the city, beyond the usual tourist information. It was such an interesting and enjoyable experience, and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Beirut! Thanks Mira!

I cannot recommend the guide and tour strongly enough. Unmissab

Great duration, pacing and rhythm. The guide knew when to walk and when to (stop and) talk, that is a surprisingly rare skill. Let`s face it, with many tours the history is old. Beirut a lot of history is recent (and sadly ongoing), you need a guide who has witnessed it first-hand. Lady guide had great English, too. The narration did not feel too scripted, it felt fresh, considered and spontaneous.

Mille mercis !
