Description

Oaxaca is best explored on foot. On this walking tour, you’ll discover some of the most iconic sites in Oaxaca, a city renowned for its cultural, historical, and architectural richness.

We’ll start at the Zócalo, the heart of the city’s social and political life. From there, we’ll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, one of Oaxaca’s most important churches, and continue on to the Church of Santo Domingo, considered a masterpiece of Mexican Baroque architecture. Nearby, we’ll stop at the Oaxaca Institute of Graphic Arts (IAGO), founded by Francisco Toledo—a welcoming space where you can appreciate the city’s strong graphic arts tradition. The tour will also include cultural centers such as the San Pablo Cultural Center and the Macedonio Alcalá Theater, architectural icons that blend tradition and art.

We’ll conclude at the Guelaguetza Auditorium, the venue for Oaxaca’s most iconic festival and a symbol of its identity. An itinerary designed to help you understand the history of Oaxaca through its main monuments and explore everything this extraordinary city has to offer.

Excellent orientation to Oaxaca

This walking tour is the perfect way to start a stay in Oaxaca. Our guide was personable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There was a nice combination of cultural, historical, and retail stops. I made note of several places to which I plan to return. She had terrific recommendations for restaurants and other activities while in the city.

Culture and history

We had a nice morning walk with our guide. She was enthusiastic and being a native of Oaxaca very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Oaxaca. She also gave us tips about places and museums to visit on our own which we did.
