Description

Your evening begins along the iconic canals, where softly glowing lanterns illuminate the water and the elegant facades of 17th-century houses. We wander through quiet alleyways and hidden courtyards to reveal stories of scholars, artists, and rebels who once shaped the city including connections to Rembrandt van Rijn, Leiden’s most famous son.

You’ll pass notable landmarks such as the imposing Hooglandse Kerk and the historic Burcht van Leiden, where nighttime views offer a unique perspective over the softly lit rooftops. Along the way, you may encounter the city’s famous wall poems, part of the Leiden Wall Poems, quietly glowing under streetlights, adding a poetic layer to the night.

The tour blends history with ambiance: from tales of the Siege of Leiden to local legends and lesser-known anecdotes that come alive after dark. Expect a relaxed pace, perfect for soaking in the serene beauty of the canals and capturing unforgettable nighttime photographs.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a romantic explorer, or simply curious to see Leiden from a new perspective, “Leiden by Night” offers an intimate and memorable experience of one of the Netherlands’ most enchanting cities.

Journey through Time

Jamie took us on a journey through time to corners of the city we never would have found on our own.

Leiden by Night with Jaime -- Beyond Expectations

We do free tours in every new city we visit. The quality of the tour is always about the guide! Jaime was one of those exceptional guides that knew his history, was personable and engaged us in conversations that flowed from our questions -- and we had a lost of questions. The time flew by, we learned a ton about the beautiful town of Leiden, and met an excellent guide and human in Jaime! Thank you!

A very informative introduction to Leiden!

My partner and I learned a lot on this tour by Jaime. We saw a lot of the major sites in the city while also learning about history. Because Jaime moved to the Netherlands recently, it was also interesting to hear his perspective on the similarities and differences between US and Dutch cultures. If you’re visiting Leiden I’d highly recommend.

Leiden by Night

Despite there being only my wife and I on the tour, our guide Matt from Colorado who had been living in Leiden for 2 years, gave us a personalized insightful comprehensive evening tour of the highlights of the city. It helped us get oriented and create an agenda for the next day.

Great Tour with Amazing Experiences

I discovered this tour by accident: Before my trip to the Netherlands, a friend recommended free walking tours (I have never done them before), and the friend I was travelling with was curious about the hidden courtyards in Leiden. So we made a quick decision to take a chance and try this tour the same day in the evening, and we didn't regret it. The guide explained everything, had profound knowledge about the city and its history, and wasn't afraid of any stupid questions no matter how hard I tried. Also he made sure that we always felt safe in the hustle and bustle of Leiden's bike and car lanes.
