Description

Do you want to explore Bucharest with a passionate local guide? Look no further! I’m deeply fascinated by history and, more importantly, by the stories that truly bring a city to life. On this tour, we won’t focus on dry, academic facts like in a college lecture. Instead, we’ll dive into engaging stories, some collected from locals, others from personal experience, blended with key historical moments. This way, you’ll gain a clearer, more human perspective on daily life in Bucharest, both today and during the communist era. We’ll even touch a bit on older history for context.

By the end, you’ll feel confident exploring Bucharest on your own. You’ll discover what to eat, what to avoid, and most importantly, we’ll have fun laughing, learning, and enjoying this fascinating city I call home.

Together, we will explore the Old Town, hear stories about its past residents, learn about the harsh yet strange realities of communism, see the impressive House of the People, admire hidden passages and beautiful churches like Stavropoleos, and get authentic food recommendations.

What we won’t see: vampires!

Includes

  • Palace of Parliament
  • Stavropoleos Monastery Church
  • Palace of the Deposits and Consignments
  • Caru' cu bere
  • Restaurant Hanu' lui Manuc
  • University of Bucharest
  • Macca - Vilacrosse Passage
  • We will visit one of the most beautiful churches in Bucharest ( if there isn't a sermon going on)
  • see the second largest building in the world
  • Explore the old Town and hear stories about people that lived here
  • Hear about how strange life was during communism
  • Get food recommendations (non-tourist traps )
  • Find out about the dark history of communism , the biggest anti-comunism Revolution ever

A comprehensive, in-depth tour covering much of the centre again

Cristian provided a very thorough, comprehensive tour of central Bucharest against the backdrop of Romania's varied past, particularly the Communist era, and showing us the locations of the previous/no-longer-existing and current landmarks which were so significant in Romania's history. The tour was so informative, and you leave with no illusions about the brutality and deprivation of life under the Communists, completely debunking the Communist propaganda of the time and since then. An unmissable tour!

Very authentic, informative tour!

My friends and I only had one full day in Bucharest and we wanted to use it well by booking a free walking tour in the morning. Cristian did a really amazing job in giving a good overview of the Romanian history and telling us more about the background of historically relevant old/new buildings and all of it with a good sense of humor. We really enjoyed it and can only recommend doing it as well.
