Description

Discover the tale of a modern Taiwanese city through time, trains, and a flowing river with the Taichung Rail & River Tour!

● Visit the only three-generation railway station that witnessed the first cross-country train in Taiwan.
● Learn about the first modernly planned city in Taiwan built under Japanese colonization.
● Discover local treats with a twist - a former ophthalmologist clinic that is now an ice cream store, and the original sun cake invented in Taichung.

Taichung is a vibrant and bustling city located in the heart of Taiwan. As the first modern city planning proposed under Japanese colonization, Taichung quickly developed through the cross-island railway system built in the early 20th century. Today, Taichung is the perfect midway city between North and South Taiwan for businesses and commuters - with only an hour of High-Speed Rail each way. Follow our guides on this tour, and we will take you through the streets of downtown Taichung to explore its rich stories through colonial city planning, new urban spaces, different architectural styles, and unique local treats.

  • Green River waterfront landscape Trail

Love the Rail stories!

Thank you, Kai, for the fascinating introduction to the rail story of Taichung. We have learnt a new facet of your hometown and its history. Good tempo and engaging conversations. Thank you also for the recommendations to the different eateries. ☺️

The perfect blend of preparation, enthusiasm and local knowledge

We have been to Taiwan several times, but never to Taichung. We were genuinely interested in understanding why this city was so different from the others. Pei took us to many important places and spoke in depth about their history and culture. Thank you, Pei, for such an enjoyable and informative tour.

Great tour

It’s very cool to have a small tour group. The tour was well organized (prepared a brief intro to the overall history of Taiwan, which is especially informative to foreign tourists). The tour guides were patient and knowledgeable to answer any questions. Most of them came from Taichung. They also made some good recommendations about where to go and where to eat. While visiting Taichung, we had walked by Taichung train station a lot. Without having the tour, we wouldn’t have known a lot of the fun history of the three-generation train station. Also, our tour guides took us walking through the green river area where the famous ice cream store Miyahara is located. It’s interesting to know more about what happened before and how it impacts the area today.
