Description

We’re Nam, Van, Lisa, and Julia—the owners of Joyful Adventures, a group of young locals who speak English fluently, each holding a Professional Tour Guide Certificate. Having called Hanoi home for over twenty years, we have a deep love for this city and all its hidden gems.

Our goal of this tour is to explore the history of the French Quarter from the colonial period alongside the struggle of the Vietnamese people for independence (such as the Government Guest House, the Opera House, and Hoa Lo Prison). To discover the architecture of a miniature Paris in the heart of Hanoi with structures similar to those in Paris (St. Joseph's Cathedral, the Grand Opera House, and the Metropole Hotel). In addition, uncover French influence and unique Indochinese architecture (National Museum of History & University of Pharmacy).

Additionally, we will guide you in exploring the history of Vietnam's resistance against the Americans, known as the Vietnam War. We can't wait to show you how interesting Vietnamese history is! NO EXTRA FEES - our guide will receive the tip based on your satisfaction

NOTE: Please provide your WHATSAPP contact information, so our guide can easily reach out to you.

Nam

Nam was a great guide! He took us around Hanoi’s French Quarter this afternoon and showed us so many interesting places, including a very old French home with a tree growing right through it ... and a cool little coffee shop hidden inside. He also pointed out the bullet holes in the gate around the Presidential Palace, a reminder of the French trying to retake it from the Vietnamese. All in all, this was the best tour we’ve been on in Hanoi. Highly recommend Nam!

Best way to learn about Hanoi!

Thu (Lisa) was fantastic! She was so sweet, so knowledgeable, and took me all around sharing history of the Old Quarter in Hanoi. Definitely a must do if you’re in Vietnam!

An unforgettable way to experience Hanoi’s history!

What started with a cancelled walking tour due to a miscommunication turned into one of our most memorable experiences in Hanoi. Lisa and Van of Joyful Adventures went out of their way to arrange a makeup tour, combining the Old Quarter and French Quarter into a customised experience for us. Van was an outstanding guide — knowledgeable, passionate and clearly deeply connected to her country's history. She covered all the essential sights, but what made the tour special was the little extras: delicious Vietnamese donuts, wandering through hidden alleyways, and exploring an ancient French villa, which was a real highlight for us. We ended at Hoa Lo Prison — haunting and powerful, but also a testament to the resilience of the Vietnamese people. The tour ultimately became 4.5 hours of fascinating stories, history and insights into Vietnamese culture and mentality. Van spared no effort and we were so grateful for everything she shared. Highly recommended if you want to 'experience' Hanoi's history rather than simply read about it!
