Description

Discover Saigon’s complex wartime history on a powerful walking tour guided by a local storyteller. More than just monuments, this experience reveals the human side of events that shaped Vietnam in the 20th century.

We begin at the Thích Quảng Đức Monument, where the story of his 1963 self-immolation sparks reflection on faith and protest. Next, admire the Saigon Archbishop’s Residence, a striking landmark of colonial religion and architecture.

The tour continues inside the War Remnants Museum (ticket: 40,000 VND), where photos, artifacts, and exhibits offer an emotional account of the conflict. We’ll also stop by Lê Quý Đôn High School, the first colonial school that played a role in shaping Vietnamese identity.

Finally, step inside the Independence Palace (ticket: 76,000 VND) to explore underground war rooms, ornate halls, and the rooftop helipad where the Vietnam War came to its symbolic end.

Lasting around 4 hours, this free walking tour is tip-based, with small groups limited to 12 participants. Entry fees total about 116,000 VND (~$4.60). Join us for an unforgettable journey into Saigon’s past, blending history, memory, and culture.

Interesting tour full of helpful information with local guide

Johnson was a great guide a bit on the soft spoken side but very knowledgeable and friendly. We appreciated the openness in which he discussed the sites especially the Venerable (burning monk) monument and the War Remnants museum. We decided to stay longer at the War museum and not go along to Independence Palace but I’m sure the remainder of the tour was very interesting and informative.

Great Tour

We had a great tour and learned a lot about the Vietnam War. Our guide Wade was funny and knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The Reunification Palace was especially interesting as the explanations added much more context. We’d definitely recommend this tour for a great mix of city sights, history and culture.

Smashing

The tour has been great. For the places visited; especially the Venerable Thich Quảng Đức Monumen and War Remnants Museum - very emotional. And for the explanations One (the guide) provided. Right pace, not too slow or too fast.
